Hosting choice is one of the most underrated decisions in any website setup. Wrong hosting can halve performance, cause GDPR issues, and in crises (hack, traffic spike, migration) determine whether youre down for 30 minutes or 3 days.

Austrian provider, data centre in Linz. Solid performance, good German support, fair pricing. From € 3.99/month, MyEcoSite recommended for WordPress (€ 7.99/month). My standard tip for small AT sites.

ALL-INKL (DE)

German classic with reputation for stability and excellent support. From € 4.95/month. PHP/MariaDB versions flexible, good SSL integration. My personal default for SMBs in DE.

easyname (AT)

Austrian host with Vienna data centre. Good domain management, easy to use. Performance OK but hits limits with bigger WordPress sites.

netcup (DE)

Very cheap especially for VPS and webhosting. Top performance, more technical support. Webhosting from € 1.79/month – cheapest serious offer in DACH.

SMB standard for active sites

Hetzner Cloud (DE)

Cloud VPS made in Germany, brutally cheap for the value. CX22 server (€ 4.15/month) handles 50,000 visits/month WordPress easily. Requires Linux/server experience. With Cloudflare = excellent for high-traffic SMB.

DigitalOcean / Vultr / Linode

International cloud VPS with EU data centres in Frankfurt or Amsterdam. Similar to Hetzner, slightly more expensive (~€ 6/month), often better tooling.

webgo (DE)

Managed WordPress with good performance and EU servers. From € 7.95/month, Performance-WP from € 14.95. Solid mid-tier choice without managing your own server.

Performance & shop hosting

Raidboxes (DE)

Managed WordPress specialist from Münster. Own EU data centres, great performance, excellent German support. From € 15/month (Starter), € 30 Pro, € 60 Business. My top tip for WordPress sites between 20,000 and 200,000 visits/month.

Kinsta (US/EU)

Managed WordPress on Google Cloud. Premium pricing (from € 30, quickly € 60–115), but performance hard to beat. EU data centres in Belgium, Frankfurt, London. Recommendation for shops with higher demand and budget.

WP Engine

Market leader for managed WordPress, US-centric. EU pricing usually higher than Raidboxes, German support email-only. For purely international projects interesting, for DACH focus rarely first choice.

Static sites & special cases

Cloudflare Pages

Free static site hosting, sub-second loading worldwide via Cloudflare edge. Ideal for marketing sites with static site generators (Astro, Hugo, 11ty). We use it ourselves for several mini-projects. Free plan: 500 builds/month.

Netlify

Similar to Cloudflare Pages, but better form handling and functions out-of-the-box. Free plan generous, Pro from € 19/month. Recommendation for JAMstack with dynamic parts.

Vercel

Standard for Next.js. Free for hobby, Pro € 20/month. Edge functions worldwide, excellent DX. For larger sites function compute can get expensive.

GDPR & server location

EU server location is the 2026 default for most use cases. US servers only sensible if the tool requires it (e.g. Vercel US region). Always need DPA with host and notice in privacy policy. Sensitive industries (medical, legal, financial): EU hosting is non-negotiable.
